The List

update (Saigon's The Greates Story Never Told) first week sales = 11,300

2010 was a great year in hip hop, such releases from Kanye West, Rick Ross, Nikki Minaj, and the return of Eminem, left us with high expectations for what’s to come for 2011.

The 10 most anticipated hip hop albums for 2011 are the following

1) Kanye West & Jay Z – Watch the Throne

Clearly this has to be the most anticipated album for the year 2011. After hearing a taste of what’s to come on the collaboration “So Appalled” on Kanye’s “Dark Twisted Fantasy”, we expect nothing but greatness. The content and the chemistry will be no problem for both rap giants, every time they get together on songs, they display their talents to the fullest.

2)Lil Wayne-The Carter 4

After the liberation of Dwayne Carter A.K.A. Lil Wayne from jail, the Carter 4 has become a highly anticipated album for the year 2011. Many industry insiders are questioning whether he will be able to match the same commercial success as The Carter 3. After listening to the first released song, “6ft-7”, we can anticipate another album full of witty lyrics and songs that only Lil Wayne can do.

3)Dr. Dre-Detox

Every year the Dr. teases us with rumors of the highly every year anticipated release of Detox. It seems that 2011 will finally mark the year for its release. I would off put this album at number one, but history itself has repeated itself for the past ten years and the album never sees the light of day. What makes this year the year? Well, the release of “Kush” as the first single is already heating the airwaves, confirming that this year will be the year.

4)Rick Ross – God Forgives, I Don’t

Let’s face it, 2010 belonged to Eminem commercially, but the streets were dominated by the rapper from Miami Rick Ross the boss. Last year he earned respect by successfully releasing a well put album such as “Teflon Don, this has gained him a lot of buzz for the release of his next project “God Forgives, I don’t”.

5)Drake-Take Care

Following his freshman release of “Thank Me Later”, Drake will be aiming to take us higher with his new project called “Take Care”. Will the sophomore jinx apply to Drake? I don’t think so, Drake has managed to be on tour making more fans day and night. Also with the release from jail of Lil Wayne and the success of her fellow mate Nikki Minaj, Drake has been able to stay current in ever ones mouth. Making this album highly anticipated for 2011

6)50 Cent-(Black Magic)

Why do I consider 50 Cent to be in this list? Well, because he’s a major artist that is trying to reconnect with the success of his first two albums. 50 Cent is going to try to feed off Detox fame and release an album. He will have another shot at greatness, the buzz revolving around Detox will catapult him once more into the spotlight. All he has to do is just step in and take it, therefore expect 50 Cent to release an album in 2011.

7)J Cole (untitled)

J Cole gave us a preview of what we can expect from him on his 2010 mixtape release “Friday Night Lights”. It’s hard to label him as a commercial rapper, or conscious rapper, J Cole has all the ingredients to make a well diversified album. The Roc Nation signee sounds like he will not disappoint the hip hop industry. Making his album high anticipated for 2011.

8)Saigon-The Greatest Story Never Told

1st week sales for the Greatest Story Never Told = 11,300

“The Greatest Story Never Told” has been shelved for at least more than a year. He has promised that this album will be considered a hip hop classic and with production from Just Blaze, this album is looking like it might be just that.

9)Nas-(no title yet)

Last year we heard Nas on a collaboration album with Damian Marley called “Distant Relatives”. He showed cased the artistic side of not been afraid to step outside and try something new. The album did not do that great sales wise, yet the diehard Nas fans were able to hear some new material from one of the legends of the hip hop world. Expect Nas to release a new album in 2011.

10)Slaughterhouse-(untitled)

So much buzz surrounding the signing to Shady Records can make this album a big hit in 2011. The hype of Joe Budden, Royce the 5’9”, Crooked I and Joell Ortiz all in one group will have the industry waiting on the outcome. The big question is, whether Slaughterhouse is ready to cross over to commercial success?

Which album is the most anticipated for 2011

  • Kanye West & Jay Z- Watch The Throne
  • Lil Wayne-The Carter 4
  • Dr. Dre-Detox
  • Rick Ross – God Forgives, I Don’t
  • Drake-Take Care
  • 50 Cent-(no name yet)
  • J Cole (untitled)
  • Saigon-The Greatest Story Never Told
  • Nas-(no title yet)
  • Slaughterhouse-(untitled)

I'm afraid Detox's gonna be the biggest letdown in hip hop history. Dre didn't even have the inspiration to produce something better than that average, unoriginal "Kush" track.

Saigon all the way here.

Most all of that list are speculative releases at best and Detox? The Chronic 2001 is the most overrated album in hip hop history and not worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as The Chronic. It had like 3-4 good songs tops.

I'm excited to hear what Nas does, but I'm pretty sure "The Greatest Story Never Told," will be the real contender this year.

How about a new Aesop Rock album?

Aden 16 months ago

This list is laughable for the simple fact that LASERS is not on it.

Naz 16 months ago

"2010 was a great year in hip hop..." No offense but you lost me right there. The Great years of hip-hop ended a long time ago. The last great album was in fact Speakerboxxx/The Love Below - OutKast

zombieworm 15 months ago

I really think Atmospheres' new album should have made your list. It's coming out in April 2011
